Digital Ocean is introducing this new type of Droplet because we’ve heard your feedback that you wanted both dedicated vCPUs and a wider range of memory configurations.

General Purpose Droplets are designed for production workloads with higher memory requirements that require predictable CPU performance. This includes:

• Web application hosting and e-commerce sites
• Medium-sized Relational and NoSQL databases
• Various analytics and business applications

General Purpose Droplets and CPU-Optimized Droplets are the first two products in our “Performance Plans” category. Performance Plans are optimized with dedicated compute hyper-threads from best in class Intel processors.

Pricing and availability

General Purpose plans start at $60/mo for 2 vCPU / 8 GB RAM and scale up to 40 vCPU / 160 GB RAM. Currently available under Limited Availability, they can be provisioned in NYC1 and FRA1.
